With the success of The Glovemaker and the Elves production in 2009 at Camden People Theatre, especially with the Visual Vernacular theatre technique did push new boundary of Theatre style that has not attempted before in Deaf British Theatre. We want to expand Visual Vernacular theatrical techniques, which will be our first phase of our process to develop working script- ‘Three Men in Little Wood’. ‘The Three Men from Little Wood’ is a fable of rags to riches, well-being and parental/sibling’s morality story. DRoots’ aim is to encourage more Deaf children to benefit from the literature of The Grimm Brothers’ stories. We will make announcement once we have secured the funding grant for this development new work.
DRoots are developing a new play script that will be written by Steven Webb who is an established Deaf playwright who has written three theatre plays for three different Theatre Companies. The theme will be mainly focus on immigration and vice prostitution criminal circle ring, which is affecting many plights of people today in Britain. Anneli is the name of main character of the play; we will follow the journey of Anneli’s torment since her abduction in east Europe to her terrible ordeal in prostitution in London which will led her to befriend a client. We aim to educate for young Deaf theatre-gores to allow them to participate and to identify with today society issues. The idea was inspired through our network relationships with young Deaf people in London, through one of our several community project scheme over the last 4 years. We will make announcement once we have secured the funding grant for this development new work.
