There is still a lack of understanding, which concerns the nature of proper use of Deaf Drama in a large majority of schools, not utilizing Deaf qualified specialists such as facilitators, teachers and companies.
Although there is growing interest from the mainstream to engage with the Deaf arts community in London and nationwide, there are some approaches taken that do not take into account the holistic approach required for tapping into a minority community such as the Deaf community is not taken into account.
All our work will be Deaf-led, but will be accessible to both Deaf and mainstream audiences, encouraging participation. DRoots is specifically designed to work with charitable status organisations, educational and public services to promote the quality of Deaf arts and culture.
We want to create a real sense of empowerment for young Deaf people and children; to be able to develop their creative and social skills and abilities in an environment they are comfortable with.
