DRoots Theatre is the only professional Deaf Theatre Company not registered as a charity but under CIC (Community Interests Company).
This allows investors and recipients of government funding to be assured that the money will be used for the benefit of the community. CIC is a new corporate model and therefore it remains to be seen how successful it will be.
DRoots objectives and aims to provide a variety of products and service are:
- To produce plays at least twice a year under the category of Young People Theatre and Children’s Theatre.
- To devise and produce a quality workshops/projects package which can be taken to schools, colleges and community centres. DRoots will also work alongside the school curriculum if requiredWe will cover Theatre in Education, Youth Theatre, Community Theatre and Art Residency.
- To cater partnership development projects with any kind of organisations, educational bodies and theatre companies/venues. Ensuring partnership’s core purpose and values have similar ideas of strong primarily social objectives, (within of social and environmental issues, focusing on children and youth.
- To provide consultation work with theatre venues/companies and educational bodies ensuring there is excellent rapport and respect for its use of language of Deaf Theatre, reflecting Deaf culture, experience, and identity.
- To offer training, apprenticeships and support to young artists who are looking for experience in the arts.
