David Ellington

Bristol born -David Ellington’s first acting experience in the Deaf festival was held at the Swan Theatre in 1997.

At this stage, David had neither acting nor performing art skills and found it a tough challenging. The event, David thought, was an overwhelming experience. Consequently it helped him to continue pursing his film, TV & theatre career after landing a presenting work for BBC Education. Since, he has been in different roles, including film, theatre and television drama and presenting. He quoted “In a logical term, acting allows you to have fun, enjoyable experience, but it is a key tool where you face to different, various challenging situation.” Eventually, he has scooped the Remark! Best Actor award in short film, DEF, and Best Mainstream Program featuring BSL in BBC Holby City.

David’s vast experience of  BSL presenting, theatre and TV/film credits include Bent & Diary of an Action Man (Graeae), Chronic Embarrassment (Bursteardrum), Reservoir Wolves (Remark!) – adapted version of Reservoir Dogs, Talk (Disability Rights Commission), The Inspector Lynley Mysteries (BBC 1),  Rush series I-IV (Channel 4) and DEF (Salad Films).

In addition to this, David’s other creative work includes the Film Club for Deaf children, co-producing deaf comedy and thriller short films and has also supported ALRA in running a theatre course for Deaf students. He is also a member of the Graeae Associate Artist, and a director of VS1 Productions. David has always enjoyed undertaking challenging roles, so managed to get used to all of the long hours travelling!
